You're Not Building Software, You're Testing a Belief

Reframing what "success" means in the MVP stage changes every decision after it.

Here's a mindset shift that will save you months. When you're building an MVP, "success" does not mean the app works. Of course it should work, that's the baseline. Success means you learned something true about whether people want it or not. That means a failed MVP, one where ten people try it and don't come back, is not a failure. It's data. It just saved you from spending a year on the wrong thing. The trap first-time builders fall into is treating the MVP like a tiny final product, polishing buttons, adding a settings page nobody asked for, worrying about the logo. None of that teaches you anything. Every hour you spend on it is an hour not spent finding out the one thing that actually matters: will a real person use this to solve a real problem. Build to learn, not to impress.
